Political parties go ad crazy as Lok Sabha election inches closer

The BJP's campaign pervades almost all forms of media. Promoting the slogan ' Abki Baar Modi Sarkar'
and ' Nayi Soch, Nayi Umeed',the BJP is suitably utilising its Rs.400 crore election budget for election campaigns by involving the likes of ace adman Prasoon Joshi and media planner Sam Balsara. A recently released ad campaign on TV and radio has a middle- class woman, in a stoic tone, discussing miseries of common people owing to price rise. The ad - " Mehngai badhane walo, janta maaf nahi karegi "- is regularly played on popular FM channels and in between the commercial breaks of popular daily television soaps.

After the ad ' Har Haath Shakti, Har Haath Tarraki' promoting Rahul Gandhi as the face of the Congress, the Congress has not released any new TV and radio advertisement until now. The ruling party's ad Main Nahi Hum' was dubbed by the BJP as a plagiarised version of its previous ads. The Har Haath Shakti, Har Haath Tarraki' ad, which made more news for the wicked spoof ' Har Haath Lollipop, Har Haath Rewari' that went viral.

The Congress had reportedly handed out a Rs.500 crore contract to Japanese agency Dentsu and Taproot for giving an image makeover to Rahul Gandhi. The ruling party's PR needs are being handled by Genesis Burson- Marsteller.

Amid the cacophony of ads by the Congress and the BJP, the Aam Aadmi Party is stick- ing to its inexpensive poll campaign largely involving door- todoor campaigning, holding street plays and aggressively promoting the party on social media.

With limited available resources, the AAP is depending on low- profile campaigns.
According to Webfluenz PTE Ltd, the Arvind Kejriwal - led party is sticking to campaigns like street plays, nukkad charchas (roadside meetings), mohalla sabhas and internship program for youth.During the Delhi elections, the AAP had replicated Obama's campaign strategy and used Google Hangouts to reach out to the voters. The party is using Thunderclap, an online platform, this time. " Can you donate a tweet or FB status for AAP? Let us all come together and donate a tweet or FB status for AAP by registering on Thunderclap," an AAP post reads.
